My, How You’ve Grown!

Comments

When my parents decided to redecorate the front lawn, they wanted to add in flowers. I somehow got it into my head that it would be a great idea to plant carrots. So we went to the gardening store one April day, and while my parents picked out daisies and perennials, I agonized over which kind of carrot seeds would grow best in the pot I had chosen for them. (They would have gone in the ground had that space not already been spoken for!). After deciding on a type called "kurodas", we went home and planted them in a long pot alongside some edamame bean seeds and another pot with strawberry plants. About a week after planting, I started seeing little green leaves. And then they grew into full blown, leafy carrot tops. Now, in June, I have… the first carrot! (Shown here with the lovely little gardening hat I bought at Target yesterday.)

Though it's come out crooked because of the pot, I consider it a great success. I mean, how often do you get to not only watch your food grow, but then pull it out yourself? It all adds to the enjoyment! If you get the chance, I think you should definitely try growing some kind of food. There was a great selection of seeds at the gardening center, from lettuce for salads to pumpkins (start planting soon for Halloween!) and watermelons. Trust me, it takes almost no gardening ability and, for most varieties, just a little space. And what better season to spend time outside in a garden than during the summer? In just a month or two, you could have a tasty little snack!

How fun! I’ve beent hinking about trying gardening actually but I’m not much of an “outside” kind of girl so I’ve been avoiding it. XD Might be fun anyways? I’d love to grow some stuff for salad…. 8D

    I love growing things!
My mom has the greenest thumb on earth so we always get out herbs and veggies from the back yard.
I have not inherited that skill, but I do like growing flowers in pots outside my room on the porch.
    It’s the nicest.

That is v. cool. I once had an awesome veggie garden, but it turns out I’m the only person in my family who will eat vegetables. Garden sadness. Garden no more. The End.
