Reading and Music
I know some people cannot read a book while listening to music but in my case I usually have to be listening to music as I am reading. There is something about music that calms me and really blocks the rest of the world out so I can fully concentrate on what I am reading. I know it sounds impossible but it really works for me.
Certain books have their own atmosphere and sometimes the characters have their own music selection which helps me envision that atmosphere better. If I have the band that the character likes I will usually make a playlist for that book. Recently I have a playlist with Gogol Bordello and the Pixies and Wolf Parade etc because of a book I am reading at the moment. It really helps to open up the world of a book if I have some sort of playlist to go along with it.
Books for me not only open up a new world for me but sometimes they also introduce me to new music or sometimes I end up re discovering a band such as the Pixies and Gogol Bordello. So my question to you is do you listen to music while you read? If so what do you listen to? Do you have a playlist already set up for reading?

I have serious trouble reading when there is noise or music or talking. Sometimes I’ll play some instrumental/classical music very very quietly in the background.
Now, on the other hand, I do often listen to music and think “Huh, this goes really well with [book I am reading or book I have read recently].”

i ave to have complete silence when im reading. with silence im able to play what im reading in my head like a little moviee…ahahaa. butt yaaa i do realize what music goes well, but not until after ive already read. (:

I love to read while listening to music, but unfortunately I can’t write with music on. I’m so jealous of other authors who can. I always get way too into the song and then forget about the writing part. But music is essential when I’m plotting.I have to know what bands my characters like from the very beginning or I don’t feel like I know my characters.
